Over 200 people came to celebrate the first annual Online Learning Day sponsored by the Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools (OAPCS) and the Ohio eSchool Families & Friends Coalition. Families and students traveled from across the state, including Cleveland, Akron, Dayton and Toledo to join other families from Central Ohio to share their stories about why they made the choice to enroll in an eSchool.
The day featured a statehouse rally (with three legislative speakers: Senate President Keith Faber, Ohio House Assistant Majority Floor Leader, Representative Jim Buchy, and State Representative Andrew Brenner). E-School parents, students, teachers and supporters visited their legislators to share their positive eSchool stories and took tours of the Statehouse. The day also included interactive educational activities developed and run by eSchool teachers for the families, and several parent, student, teacher, and successful graduates addressed the group during the celebration program sharing their eSchool success stories.
Online Learning Day was designed so that families could meet and join with other eSchool groups from throughout Ohio to raise awareness about the importance of online learning options. The event also built connections between families, schools and the broader community. Schools represented at the event included Ohio Connections Academy, Ohio Virtual Academy, Ohio Distance and Electronic Learning Academy (OhDELA), Insight of Ohio, Virtual Community School of Ohio and Provost Academy.
